I hope you are looking forward to/having/had a great 4th of July! I am celebrating more calmly this year… no trips, no big plans. Looking forward to a cookout with my parents.
My friends at Health Partnership Clinic did a great 4th of July post with safety tips including: leaving fireworks to the experts, being safe in the pool or lake, BBQing safely and protecting your skin from the sun. Good reminders.
I recently took my wife to see Hamilton with friends at the Kansas City Music Hall. I had no idea what to expect. I’d heard it was history and rap, so I was hoping I would enjoy it. It was fantastic! I’m not a big history buff, but after watching Hamilton, I wanted to know more about Alexander Hamilton and his wife Elizabeth.
While I was watching Hamilton, I was able to understand more clearly what it must have been like during the American Revolution. Protests and arguments over years leading to rebellion. Fighting with limited resources and winning. Great courage and great sacrifice.
Between 25,000 and 70,000 American Patriots died during active military service in the American Revolution. Of these, approximately 6,800 were killed in battle, while at least 17,000 died from disease. And many, many more have died in the conflicts since to make sure that we can continue to enjoy our freedom.
I am so thankful for my life and the country we live in. And I am eternally grateful for the men and women, in many uniforms, that protect my safety and freedom.
Happy Independence Day!
