Hello friends! Time for another thought leadership video! It would be easy for you to read the title and move on… but I hope you will stick with me for this one. After listening, I hope you will take a serious look at your knee jerk responses to new things, new technology and new behaviors.
This brain food is all about not “acting old” when it comes to technology. Please fight against getting set in your ways. If you keep learning, it will keep you young. :)
One of the examples I mention in my video today is the key combination of WINDOW+V. (This means you hold the Windows key down and then press V.) It is a more powerful version of CTRL+V. Both of these keyboard shortcuts perform a “paste” function. But WINDOW+V is so much more powerful.
I did a video on WINDOW+V a few months ago and to this day I still have people mention how helpful that was. Sometimes it is in person. Sometimes it’s online. But no matter how many people were able to adopt this new behavior, I know in my bones that a lot of people liked the idea, got busy, and moved on.
So my question would be, what is your process for adopting new behaviors?
I will admit that it was challenging for me to change my default behavior of using CTRL+V to copy to using WINDOW+V. But I knew it would be worth it. I put a reminder on my calendar for 2 Fridays in a row that simply said, “Have you been using WINDOW+V?” By the end of the first week, I had made the switch, and I almost never using CTRL+V any more.
What works for me is to put reminders on my calendar for things I want to learn or make a new habit. Walking every day is another example. I have one hour blocked on my calendar for the next 30 days, and the last one is a reminder to set up the next month of walking blocks on my calendar.
I hope you are still open to learning new things. It does take energy. But the effort will help you stay strong mentally… and it will make your life easier/more efficient/less painful. Let me know something that you’ve had to work hard at to make a new habit for yourself in the comments.
Thank you for reading and watching!
