Hello friends! This week I’m sharing some information about the DJI Osmo Action camera. Why? Because it’s great tech, might be a fun (but expensive) Father’s Day present and it’s on sale at B&H Photo bundled with an extended charging kit for less than $300. Let’s get into it.
If you’ve ever used a GoPro camera, you’re already familiar with the DJI Osmo Action because it’s similar in many ways. I’ve had three different GoPro cameras over the years. And I still love them. GoPro introduced truly portable, rugged video cameras in a tiny package to the world in 2004. I’ve used them when I scuba dive and usually take my GoPro on trips. And there haven’t been any true competitors until recently.
There’s a good chance you’ve already heard of DJI… they’re one of the most popular manufacturers of aerial drones. When I started seeing reviews about the Osmo Action, I knew I needed to try it out.
The first reason I wanted to get an Osmo Action is that it has two LCD screens… the traditional screen on the back, and a screen on the front. This is incredibly helpful when framing your video in selfie mode. And the reality is that these cameras are typically used in selfie mode. Whether you are skiing, surfing, mountain biking or vlogging, the LCD screen on the front is incredibly useful for making sure you’re getting everything framed properly in your videos.
The next feature I love is RockSteady. As the name implies, the camera software will take a shaky video and magically smooth it out. It works incredibly well. In my tests, I intentionally tried to make jerky videos. And in most cases, the results were still smooth when I had RockSteady turned on. So if your family is tired of getting motion sickness watching your shaky trip videos, this will make them happy.
DJI was smart to make their camera housing compatible with GoPro mounts. There are literally hundreds of GoPro mounts to choose from. Handlebar mounts, helmet mounts, windshield mounts, selfie sticks and more. People have invested in these mounting solutions, so it’s great that you can buy the Osmo Action and not have to buy a bunch of mounting accessories to go with it.
As I am writing this article, the DJI Osmo Action is on sale at B&H Photo and Video. And it comes bundled with an extended charging kit. Normally, the Osmo Action and extended charging kit would cost $369. But you can get that bundle for $259 shipped.
Why am I suggesting you buy it from B&H Photo instead of Amazon? B&H Photo doesn’t have a retail store in Kansas or Missouri, so there’s no sales tax when you buy from them online. And they offer free shipping for purchases over $49.
If you don’t already own an action camera, it might be a great time to pick up the Osmo Action!
